I was in a bloody good mood yesterday. The arrival of my things really cheered me up, the magnitude of which surprised me. Sure, I know that I'm not defined solely by my belongings ya-dar ya-dar. However, I have to admit that my things do give me a sense of wellness and identity. Colourful dresses, high heels, vintage tea sets, illustrated books - they make me HAPPY :-).
The best thing about the 28 boxes was that they contained all of my favourite things. I know this is because I only allowed myself to pack things I love and couldnt bear to part. E asked me last night whether I regretted discarding anything when I mentioned to him that the movers seem to have used only half of each box suggesting that I might have had additional space in the boxes. "Hangers", I told him automatically and, "... maybe some other stuff like toiletries, cute kitchenware and unread books and CDs". Which is true. I didn't love them but I think they could come handy especially when we settle into our new apartment in the city.
E reckons it's a lesson for me not to de-clutter radically. I'm not so sure. I didn't know at the time we would have another flat to occupy and wanted to minimise shipping costs, lighten my load and travel lightly. The problem is I think, everything seems to cost so much here.
oh. my.god. hangers... why do i now feel like the bi-atch from hell??
p.s I was surprised to see the number of CDs you threw away! I am a hoarder myself - in fact, I consider myself as one of those with some kind of mental illness for I am terribly attached to my belongings... but, you threw away music and books. babe, you were (if I remember correctly) on a spiritual journey and that parting with your goodies (in my opinion) was some kind of pilgrimage from one life to another. see where you are now! God moves in mysterious ways and you can now fill your new home with newer more meaningful things - apt for today and the future. nothing from the past.
hugs.

I strongly recommend these kind of hangers http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/30Pcs-Non-Slip-Velvet-Hangers-Slim-Hanger-seen-Worldwide-Freeshipping-/180728137684?pt=AU_Home_Decor&hash=item2a143c87d4
You can hang twice as much in a wardrobe, they don't slip (you can hang tshirts and knitwear) and shipping is not exorbitant. I have discovered costco here sell them and have just bought a hundred!

Nina babes-you're an angel and I totally agree - I was on spiritual journey of serious decluttering and setting out afresh mode and your help was immensely appreciated as I remember asking you to help me and be strict :-) I don't really have significant regrets. I like what you wrote about filling new apartment eith meaningful things. Indeed, I've promised myself to only buy books and CDs which I will read and appreciate. My new golden rule is can't buy new ones till have read and exhausted old one. Xxx
