Today´s lunch is arroz negro con sepia prepared by E´s mum who incidentally is a great cook. It was delicious and I had a second helping feeling famished from my swimming lessons (more on that later) and after being told that it was the main and only dish (a rare occurence).
I´ve been eating very well since arriving here (yesterday we had lamb ribs). The luncheons are often a big affair, involve a number of dishes and last for hours. Dinners are a lot lighter and typically involve cheese, slices of meat, fruits and yoghurt. The style of having lunch is not very different to the ones I shared with the Meyer family in Bavaria. I.e. it is the main meal of the day where everyone comes together for a few hours etc (unlike dinner). I have however destilled 3 main differences from the luncheons here vs the one with the Meyers:
(1) Timing of lunch: it´s much later here - usually around 3pm (vs. noon at the Meyers);
(2) Quantity of red wine (everyone drinks here and loves the Spanish Ribera del Duero and Toro),
(3) The higher pitch of voice and the range of emotions used when conversing
Regarding the latter, I really thought everyone was arguing when I first joined the family´s get together last year. Now I know this is just the way they discuss and enjoy lunch.
